Tom “Smitty” Smith served as the State Director of Texas Public Citizen for over 30 years and has been a leader in developing successful renewable energy policies in order to address climate change and ensure energy independence for Texas and the nation. His recent efforts on behalf of electric transportation include leading the effort to create the Texas Emission Reduction Plan (which provides for a $2,500 incentive for each participating vehicle), and assembling a panel that began the discussion with Texas ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) on how the coming EV revolution will affect the state's electricity grid.
"Texas is #2 in the nation in the number of cars on the road. There's no reason why we can't become an electric transportation leader for the nation - much like we did with renewable energy in the 1980s and 1990s."
